Flexible quick thinking and execution

Why hire a full-time professional wedding photographer? And why not ask a friend with a nice camera? The wedding of Jordan and Oliwia was a recent good example as to why a professional is worth the investment.

Their wedding reception was in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. And during the drinks reception we had planned to take some pictures, of the bride and groom, along Alum Bay beach. However, when we arrived, the chairlift had already stopped (we had figured this might be the case beforehand), but what we hadn’t anticipated was that the stairs leading down to the beach had also been closed.

I was then in the situation where I’ve taken the bride and groom away from their guests – so the pressure is really on – and we might now walk away empty handed. I also didn’t know the area at all. In situations like this, you have to remain calm, think clearly, be flexible with your ideas and give the couple confidence. Jumping back into the car for a quick scout of the nearby area, and being able to visualise the end result, lead me to a nearby spot overlooking the bay. I was able to keep the couple relaxed, they trusted my judgement, and I executed something that only results from experience and competence. I’m sure you’ll agree the handful of images below speak for themselves.
