In June, 2026, I married my best friend on a beach in Jersey. Our day was everything we could have wanted – and more! And although I’ve been photographing weddings since 2008 (full-time since 2011), my own wedding day experience has given me a whole new insight and appreciation for my couples booking me for their wedding. I now know first-hand what it’s like trying to find your team of suppliers, the feelings in the last few weeks before the big day, how you want to be completely in the moment on the day and leave the worries to the team of suppliers you’ve built around you, and what you’re then wanting in the delivery afterwards. It’s given me a greater understanding of the full journey.
Now, a few months on, I can already see how that experience has shaped the way I work. I’ve always cared deeply about giving my couples a brilliant experience, but being on the other side of the camera has given me a new perspective on what that really means. I understand even more clearly how important it is to have someone you can trust, someone who knows when to step in, when to step back, and who allows you to simply be present and enjoy your day. It’s also given real weight to any recommendations I can pass on – 400+ wedding photographed, plus my own recent experience in-front of the lens.
So, whilst I may have been photographing weddings for nearly two decades, getting married myself has made me a better wedding photographer.
